Raise Awareness – Fund Research – Cure AVM
Kelleigh’s Cause, Inc. is a not-for-profit charity founded by Kelleigh Gustafson to raise awareness of the rare and life threatening disease Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs).
AVMs are defects of the circulatory system that are generally believed to arise during embryonic or fetal development or soon after birth. They are comprised of snarled tangles of arteries and veins. The absence of capillaries-small blood vessels that connect arteries to veins-creates a short-cut for the blood to pass directly from arteries to veins. Although AVMs can develop in many different sites, those located in the brain or spinal cord – the parts of the central nervous system – can have especially widespread effects on the body. Simply put, it is a birth defect the causes abnormal blood vessel growth.
Due to the rarity of the AVM, Kelleigh’s Causes uses its outreach efforts to create awareness of the condition and help provide information for families or patients with the disease.
Kelleigh’s Cause also funds much needed medical research. All money raised by Kelleigh’s Cause is used specifically to fund basic scientific research into the causes of AVM so we can find better treatments or a cure.

On-site parking is limited at Hawk Island Park. Please arrive early and carpool as possible. There is a parking fee collected by Ingham County Parks of $3 for Ingham County residents and $5 for non-residents
Awards will be awarded to the top 3 participants, male and female in each age group and overall for the half marathon and 5K.
Participant must be present on event day to receive medal.
Age Groups: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 & 70+
If you do not pick up your medal there will be a $5 fee to have it mailed to you: Post race medal request registration.

This event is chip timed. Your “chip” is integrated with your bib. You must wear your bib on your front across your stomach to be electronically timed.
Runners and walkers can participate in this event as long as the participant can finish within the event time limit, see schedule above.
All event shirts are cold wash & hang dry.
All participants are required to read and sign the event waiver form.
If you ordered your race packet to be mailed to you, it will typically arrive 1-4 days before the event. It will be sent to the address you entered during registration. If your package does not arrive before the event day, please come to event day packet pick up where you will be re-assigned your bib and gear.
Participant gear must be picked up at pre-event packet pick up or on the event day. It is the participant’s responsibility to make sure that they do not impair their ability to hear, see, sense, and detect present or potential hazards and dangers.
Park trails and roads are open to public use throughout the event.
5K water stations include water, half marathon water stations include water and sports drink
If at any time you are in need of assistance throughout the event please notify a volunteer or course monitor.
No dogs. Strollers are allowed for walkers only after all other runners and walkers have started. We recommend children in strollers to wear helmets.
There are no refunds.
There are no refunds. The event will start rain, snow or shine. The event could be delayed due to lightning or other dangerous conditions. Above schedule is weather dependent. Trail conditions could be variable.
You can transfer to a different distance within the same race up to 3 days before the event. If you are transferring to a more expensive race you’ll have to pay the difference of the registration fees.
You can transfer your registration/bib # to another participant for $6 up to 3 days before the event.
You can defer your registration to next year’s race or any other All Community Event’s race for $6 up to 17 days before the event. After that, you can still defer for $15 until the day prior to packet pick up. Please send us an e-mail to request a deferment.
You can manage your event shirt size and any other add-ons up to 10 days before the event.
